Description:
A Variable Frequency Drive, VFD is designed to safely control the speed and torque of an AC motor by manipulating the frequency and voltage of its power supply. They are used in a variety of applications such as pumps,
conveyors, power tools and several other electro-mechanical devices.
Variable Frequency Drives depend on several accessories to function well. These include rectifiers, diodes, inductors, filter capacitors, microcontroller ICs and Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistors (IGBT) among others. These accessories all have specific functions in the various stages through which the power output is modified.
VFD process involves converting AC power to DC using a rectifier or converter to vary its voltage, then eliminating the ripples and harmonics in the DC power with inductors, filter capacitors or IGBT transistors. An inverter is then used to convert the DC power back to AC and microcontroller ICs are used to adjust it to the desired frequency. All these processes are programmed into your VFD device set to the desired frequency.
Variable Frequency Drives help to save energy, reduce maintenance requirements, protect equipment from damage and eliminate the need for
valves,
dampers, and soft starter
motors. Contact our experts at MRO Supply if you have any questions about the specific VFD accessories we have in stock.
