Description:
Barrel roller bearings are single row self-aligning roller bearings that cannot be separated, comprised of a solid outer ring with a concave raceway, and a solid inner ring that has two ribs and a cylindrical bore. Additionally, as opposed to ball bearings, it has a single row of barrel rollers. This unique design is specialized for applications with high radial shock type loading and misalignments; these
bearings have relatively low axial load capacity. The concave or tapered outer raceway gives the bearings angular adjustment capabilities, allowing for a certain amount of skewing without damaging the bearings. This means they can compensate misalignments, housing deformations, and shaft deflections quite well. Barrel roller bearings are not designed for high-speed applications, however the individual capabilities of the bearing depends on variations and improvements.
Lubrication and oil additives, as well as sealing and cage types, can impact bearing performance like temperature and speed capabilities. Compatibility between lubricant and cage material is important, especially when using plastic cages, and regular oil changes will maintain operating life. Polyamide or solid brass cages are available; brass cages can improve temperature abilities and performance under harsh or strenuous usage. At MRO Supply we provide a large variety of bearing types, brands, and variations to suit any application.
