Description:
Linear bearings are some of the common types of
bearings in industrial operations today. They are constructed to facilitate motion only in one direction. The bearings are mounted on round or square rails depending on your application. The rolling element is used for moving the load on linear bearings, dovetail bearings, ball bearings, fluid bearings, or magnetic bearings.Once installed properly, linear bearings’ durability is determined by the speed of operation, loading capacity and intensity of use. The bearings can be broadly categorized into two; caged and non-caged models. Caged linear bearings are designed with retained balls. They are preferred in many industrial applications because they are quieter and have longer bearing lifespan. In the case of non-caged linear bearings, they are considered better for smaller load and low-speed applications. In both cases, the linear bearings are very effective in reducing shock resistance. Some of the main applications of linear bearings include roller tables, linear stages, X-Y tables and machine slides.
