Thrust washers, also known as thrust bearings
or thrust plates, are flat disk-shaped bearings located between a rotating and stationary component, to keep the rotating component in place. They are typically used in rotary applications such as fatigue liners for soft housing faces, or with needle roller and cage assemblies. As with all bearings, they are available in a variety of materials, styles, and can feature different improvements to alter bearing performance. Materials include through-hardened steel, stainless steel, case-hardened steel, bronze, phosphorous bronze, brass, graphite, or plastics. Graphite is typically used for high-temperature applications, and plastics are suitable for light load, low speed applications. Improvements and features include surface finish, heat treatment, passivating, plating, and through-hardness.
