Hex Nuts are six-sided nuts, and Hex is a shortened form of a hexagon. They are widely available and can be used with studs, screws
rods, and anchors. You can use hex nuts with any fastener having machine screw threads. They feature right-hand threads, but you can still get left-hand threads.
Its nominal thread diameter determines the size of the Hex Nut measured in fractions of an inch. Sizes range from ¼-inch to 2 ½ inches. Also, the wrench size or width across the nut’s flat varies from between 1.50 – 1.75 times the nominal size of the hex nut.
For a full thread engagement, you should ensure that the bolts
or screws extend at least up to two threads beyond the face of the hex nut. The nuts are made from stainless steel, aluminum, brass, nylon, and bronze. Steel Hex Nuts are the least expensive, with copper alloys being the costliest.
