For a plumber, his toolbox will not be complete if it lacks a set of pipe taps. Pipe taps are machining cutting tools
used for cutting internal threads of a plumbing fitting. These threads are later used when joining pipes in plumbing lines to create watertight joints. The pipe taps are made using hardened materials such as high-speed steel and high-carbon steel for cutting threads in metal pipes. To use the pipe taps, you hold the fitting/ pipe firmly with a clamp and then turn the pipe tap forward in a clockwise direction. Make sure to turn back slowly after every half turn. This is important to remove the cut metal chips and prevent the pipe tap from jamming. It also helps to keep the threads clean. Some of the common pipe taps you should consider for your toolbox include taper tap, spiral point taps
, roller taps, and spiral flute taps. To see all the types of pipe taps, visit our page.
