Description:
These are for
centrifugal pumps with the pump impeller mounted directly on the motor shaft, thus eliminating precise alignment between the motor and the load (which is expensive and time-consuming; poor alignment can destroy a motors bearings in hours). This type of motor also eliminates belts,
gears, etc. Motor
bearings must withstand the forces (oscillations) originating at the pump impeller because the pump does not have its own bearings. There are two constructive types: ODP (Open, Drip Proof) and TEFC (Totally Enclosed, Fan Cooled). These
motors rarely have HAZLOC housing. The shaft mount types are JM, JP, or West Coast.
