These are for centrifugal pumps
with the pump impeller mounted directly on the motor shaft, thus eliminating precise alignment between the motor and the load (which is expensive and time-consuming; poor alignment can destroy a motors bearings in hours). This type of motor also eliminates belts, gears
, etc. Motor bearings
must withstand the forces (oscillations) originating at the pump impeller because the pump does not have its own bearings. There are two constructive types: ODP (Open, Drip Proof) and TEFC (Totally Enclosed, Fan Cooled). These motors
rarely have HAZLOC housing. The shaft mount types are JM, JP, or West Coast.
