Description:
A nipple, in piping and plumbing, is a fitting that is made up of a small bit of pipe that typically comes with a male pipe thread on each end to connect two other
fittings. The length of the nipple is noted by the entire length with thread. Some nipples have a hexagonal part in the middle called a hex nipple for a wrench to hold onto, and it can be made using a barrel or pipe nipple. There are several kinds of pipe nipples used commonly including: running or close nipple, unequal/reducing nipple, hexagonal nipple, hose nipple and welding nipple. A close nipple will not have a threaded area and only a small part of the nipple remains exposed. This type of nipple can only be undone by using a special tool referred to as a nipple wrench that is able to hold the nipple without damaging the threads. An unequal or reducer nipple is one with ends of different sizes.Choosing the right fitting can be difficult.
