Speed Reducers
Speed reducers, a.k.a. gear reducers, are mechanical devices that adjust an input speed and torque to an output speed and torque. Essentially, they modify the speed of a motor's output shaft to a speed suitable for the machine's operations. They work by reducing the rotational speed from the input shaft to the output shaft, thus increasing torque.

About Speed Reducers
Speed reducers help maintain smooth operations in manufacturing machinery. These devices reduce an input speed or torque to the desired output speed or torque. They have primarily motor-driven applications, which reduce the speed to provide more torque, a function essential in machinery operating at high speeds but requiring a slower, more controlled movement. Ensuring the correct speed and torque provides the needed precision in many operations. However, speed reducers also extend the equipment’s lifespan by reducing strain and wear.
Speed reducers are available in three types:
A right-angle speed reducer alters a motor's output speed and torque like any other. However, this reducer comprises a set of gears arranged so that the output shaft is at a right angle to the input shaft. The input shaft connects to the motor, and upon rotation, the interlocking gears engage, reducing the speed and increasing the torque as the motion transfers to the output shaft. The right-angle configuration is especially beneficial when space is limited since it allows for more compact machine designs.
An inline or concentric speed reducer also operates on the principle of gear reduction using multiple gears in a sealed unit. The input, or high-speed shaft, has a small gear attached, and when power is applied, the small gear rotates, interacting with the teeth of a larger gear attached to the output or low-speed shaft. The inline setup ensures a straight-line power transfer, making it ideal for applications where alignment is crucial.
Parallel shaft speed reducers contain gears arranged parallel to each other. These speed reducers convert high-speed, low-torque input into a low-speed, high-torque output. They are highly efficient, compact, and can handle high radial and axial loads.
MRO's experts in speed reducer replacement parts can recommend and supply any of the numerous parts and accessories in inventory. These include torque arms, shaft kits, backstops, and other kits.
Remember, MRO is committed to providing only high-quality parts from reputable manufacturers.
