Cylindrical roller bearings utilize a modified cylindrical roller that provides line contact with the inner and outer ring raceways. They are suitable for high speeds and have a high radial load capacity. The rollers are guided by ribs on either the inner or outer rings. Depending upon the configuration, the bearings may or may not be able to accept any axial loading. The inner and outer rings are separable which may aid in assembly/disassembly of components. The NJ Type bearings has shoulders on both sides of the outer ring and one shoulder on the inner ring. This allows the bearing to accept light axial loads in one direction. Some sizes may be available in a high capacity design (EG) that has larger diameter rollers and a polyamine cage. Stamped steel or machined brass (MY) cages are generally used. These bearings are most commonly used in gearboxes, rolling mills, crushers and pulverizers. Separable components simplify mounting and removal. Long life. Heavy radial load capacity. Suitable for light axial thrust loads. Accommodates limited axial expansion and contraction. High capacity design. Effective when the bearing rings require interference. Low friction between rollers and flanges. Higher load capacities provide longer life using larger rollers than those in conventional bearings drastically increases the load carrying capacity of this bearing design. This increase in load capacity provides for longer bearing life. Low temperature rise and quiet operation a polyamide retainer is highly effective in minimizing temperature increases and ensuring quiet operation at high operating speeds. Small radial load capacity in only one direction with on integral flange or by mountings a loose flange. Inner ring with a rib. Without loose rib. Outer ring with ribs on both sides([JIS B 1533).
How do I choose the right type of bearing for my application?
Start with the load and how it’s applied. You need to know if you’re dealing with radial loads, axial loads, or a mix of both. Then look at speed, operating environment, and space constraints. For example, ball bearings are great for high speed and lighter loads, while roller bearings handle heavier loads but usually at lower speeds. If there’s contamination, moisture, or heat involved, you may need sealed bearings or specific materials. In most cases, the right choice comes down to matching load type, speed, and environment to the bearing design.
