Cylindrical Roller Bearing NU CONFIGURATION Cylindrical Roller Bearings utilize a modified cylindrical roller that provides line contact with the inner and outer ring raceways. They are suitable for high speeds and have a high radial load capacity. The rollers are guided by ribs on either the inner or outer rings. Depending upon the configuration, the bearings may or may not be able to accept any axial loading. The inner and outer rings are separable which may aid in assembly/disassembly of components. The NU Type bearings has shoulders on both sides of the outer ring and none on the inner ring. This allows the bearing to move axially on the inner ring. Some sizes may be available in a high capacity design (EG) that has larger diameter rollers and a polyamine cage. Stamped steel or machined brass (MY) cages are generally used. These bearings are most commonly used in gearboxes, rolling mills, crushers and pulverizers. Large radial load capacity. Suitable for high speed applications. Low friction between rollers and flanges.
How do I choose the right type of bearing for my application?
Start with the load and how it’s applied. You need to know if you’re dealing with radial loads, axial loads, or a mix of both. Then look at speed, operating environment, and space constraints. For example, ball bearings are great for high speed and lighter loads, while roller bearings handle heavier loads but usually at lower speeds. If there’s contamination, moisture, or heat involved, you may need sealed bearings or specific materials. In most cases, the right choice comes down to matching load type, speed, and environment to the bearing design.
