Description:
A magnetic motor starter is a device used for starting and stopping a connected motor load through electromagnetic operation. Magnetic motor starters have two main components, which are electrical
contactors and overloads that both provide protection in the occurrence of sudden power loss. The electrical contactor in magnetic motor starters functions in a similar way to a relay with the capability of switching electrical power of larger amounts and handling loads of higher voltage. The contactors also feature contact carriers that have electrical contacts for connecting the power from the incoming line to the load contact. Contactors can also be accessorized with auxiliary contacts to add to their functionality when the contactors are closed. The overload relay protects the motor and the other load from short circuit damage, overloading, and overheating. They overloads have four modes of operations, which are manual reset only, automatic reset only, manual reset/stop, and automatic reset/stop. Older version overloads use bimetallic strips for their fixed trip points for temperature and are usually called
heaters. When it comes to matters maintenance, repairs, and operations, talk to the experts at MRO Supply.
