Energizer Holdings

Energizer Holdings is a manufacturer of household and personal care products that provide solutions in personal grooming, skin care, lighting, and portable power. The company has thirty established brands including Energizer Bunny®, Mr. Energizer®, Schick®, Wilkinson Sword®, Banana Boat®, EVEREADY®, Playtex®, and Wet Ones®, to name a few.

 

History

The company's history began in 1896 when the first dry cell battery was invented by W.H. Lawrence, to be used to power home telephones. By 1898, the battery was being used by Conrad Hubert to power his invention - the first handheld flashlight. In 1905, these two men decided to form The American Ever Ready Company. The company was later acquired by National Carbon Company where Conrad Hubert remained as President and the trademark is shortened to EVEREADY®. In 1955, the very first miniature batteries for hearing aids was introduced by EVEREADY®. The brand introduced another new innovation in 1958 - the EVEREADY Nickel Damium (NiCd) rechargeable battery system. The following year, the battery industry was revolutionized once more when EVEREADY® scientist Lewis Urry created the first commercially viable cylindrical alkaline battery. Another innovation was introduced by the company in 1967 - the first rechargeable flashlight. In 1975, the company finally introduces the world's most popular flashlight - the EVEREADY® economy light. And in 1980, the Energizer® brand is born and the first lithium coin cells are introduced to the market. The first fluorescent flashlight which doesn't require as much bulb changing is introduced by the company in 1983. In 1986, Ralston Purina Company acquires the Eveready Battery Company. 3 years later, the Energizer Bunny® is born. Over the years, the company introduces several more innovations such as the first AA lithium battery and an instant Cell Phone Charger (Energi To Go®). In 2000, Energizer Holdings, Inc. was created. Later on, several other brands were acquired such as Schick® Wilkinson Sword® razors, Playtex, Edge®, and Skintimate®.

Energizer Holdings, Inc. has its global headquarters in St. Louis, Missouri while its Global Technology Center is located in Westlake, Ohio. The company has operations in 50 countries across the globe, from North America all the way to Asia. Its distribution network can be found in over 160 countries. Energizer Holdings also has 10 production facilities in 4 countries - United States, Egypt, Singapore, and Canada.
