History
Guardair Manufacturing Corporation was founded in 1942 in Bridgeport, Connecticut. The company, because of its technical innovations including the very first "safety air gun" with a safety air shield, flourished in its first two decades of business. In 1959, Union Engineering, Inc. acquired the assets of Guardair Manufacturing. Years later, the company worked closely with the newly created Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) in drafting the standards of worker safety in the manufacturing industry. This allowed the company to introduce the very first safety airgun specifically designed to meet OSHA standards. Several innovations were introduced by the company during the 1970s and 1980s. The company's name was changed back to Guardair Corporation in 1994 when Union Engineering's ownership changed. In 2000, to augment its growth, the company moved to Chicopee, Massachussetts into a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility. In addition, the company also made several acquisitions over the years - Allpax Gasket Cutter Systems in 1999, Nortech Vacuum Products in 2005, and Air-Spade in 2008. Today, Guardair Corporation is the world's largest manufacturer of safety air guns.
