Hose Clamp Size Chart

Hose clamp size charts are important to help you select the right hose clamp for your hose. Here’s everything you should know before selecting a hose clamp.

What exactly is a “hose clamp”?

Before digging into the “how-to” of measuring and sizing, a hose clamp is an adjustable device used to secure a hose or other tubes to various fittings like piping, tubing, fittings, etc. Also known as a hose clip or hose lock, hose clamps are tightened by a nut driver or socket wrench, making them an excellent solution to securing supplies at home, automotive, or industrial settings. From mounting signs to home or auto repairs, this handy item wraps, tightens, and protects under the highest of pressures.

How does hose clamp sizing work?

A hose clamp’s size depends upon its clamping diameter range which is listed either as minimum or maximum usable diameter. Some clamp sizes are specified by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), making them a guaranteed standard size (non-Metric) to fit compatible, corresponding parts in America.

What size of hose clamp do I need?

To determine the size of hose clamp you require, use this method:

  1. Install a hose or tubing on the diameter of the pipe to measure its external diameter. Adjust the tube size used to the tighten fitting that can slide onto the pipe without much struggle.

  2. With a ruler or tape measure, note the diameter across the external edges of the final fitted tube.

  3. On a hose clamp size chart (such as the example later in this article), locate the minimum and the maximum diameter of a hose clamp.

  4. Choose the diameter that lies closest to your measured diameter of the tube for the hose clamp.

There are many different hose clamp size charts out there, with slightly different sizes and diameters based on each manufacturer. Luckily this means that there is a huge variety of hose clamps to select from, so you can easily get the diameter you’re looking for.

All you have to do is locate the minimum and the maximum diameter of a hose clamp before you buy one. The diameter that is slightly larger than your measured diameter is what you should choose on a hose clamp size chart.

Some people also like to choose a specific manufacturer when buying a hose clamp to ensure the durability and build of a hose clamp, which is important as well. So if you can easily find the hose clamp of your required size, you also have the option to choose any manufacturer you like.

Some of the most common hose clamp size charts are as follows

Standard Series

The standard series hose clamp size chart is one of the most famous ones out there. They are primarily found in automotive and industrial applications.

The minimum clamp diameter for the standard series is ⅜ inches, and the maximum diameter is about 7/16 inches. They have ½ inches wide bands and 5/16 inch slotted hex head screws. You can select from sizes anywhere in between.

These hose clamps either meet or exceed the standard torque specifications by the SAE.

Miniature Series

The miniature series hose clamp size chart is used for hoses that have a considerably small diameter. This could be air, fluid, or gas lines.

The minimum diameter in the miniature series is 7/32 inches, and the maximum is 1 ¾ inches.

The bands are as wide as 5/16 inches with a screw that is ¼ inches slotted hex head. You can select from anywhere in between these sizes from your desired manufacturer or a store.

The small size of these hose clamps allows their installation in confined places.

We hope this guide was helpful, and it helped you get the necessary insight on the hose clamp size chart and how you can find out what size of a hose clamp you need.
