Hyde Tools
Hyde Tools is a manufacturer of equipment, cutting tools, blades, and surface preparation hand tools used for drywall work, plumbing, power washing, masonry, construction, tile work, glass work, and painting. The company has around 2,000 products including industrial knives, pivot nozzle wands, scrapers, trowels, and multi-tools. Hyde Tools is part of the Hyde Group of companies.
History
Hyde Manufacturing Company was founded in 1875 by Isaac P. Hyde. At the time, Hyde created knives for the leather and shoe industry in New England. In 1893, Isaac Hyde sold the company to Joseph Lacroix and Myron Clemence. By the end of the 19th century, the company had expanded its product line to include knives that can be used for a variety of industrial applications. By 1917, the company already had two factories. By 1927, the company had expanded its product range to include painting and decorating tools. In 1956, Hyde starts using the "Card-O-Sell" packaging system. The company continues to grow and expand over the next several years. In 1968, Hyde acquires the Russell Harrington Cutlery Co. of Southbridge. In 1974, a new plant is opened on Eastford Road. To further its growth, Hyde acquires a second company in 1980 - Wilson Macine Knife Co., Inc. In the following years, Hyde acquires several other companies: Gutmann Cutlery, Inc., Beaut-Ease Products, and The American Paint Paddle Co. In 1999, the company receives ISO 9001 certification. Two years later, the Russell-Harrington Cutlery Co. changes its name to Dexter-Russell, Inc. In 2003, Hyde Manufacturing Co. becomes the corporate parent of the Hyde Group of companies. During the same year, the company acquires A. Richard Ltd. In 2005, the company makes another acquisition - Roman Decorating Products. In 2010, The Hyde Group of companies is split into two. Hyde Tools and A. Richard Tools remained under the Hyde Group while Dexter-Russell and American Promotional Products are now part of the Affinity Group, Inc.
