Leatherman Tool Group, Inc. is a manufacturer of multi-tools, pocket tools, knives, and accessories. The company's product offerings include bottle openers, corkscrews, saws, screwdrivers, bolt drivers, scissors, wire cutters, sheaths, pliers, wrenches, cutting hooks, awls, and files. In addition to these, Leatherman Tool Group also offers skate and surf tools. Leatherman products are used in a variety of activities including outdoor, emergency, tactical, DIY, trades, and action sports.

History

Leatherman Tool Group was founded in 1983 by Tim Leatherman and Steve Berliner. The company started out as an idea of Tim's due to his constant need for pliers while traveling abroad driving an old $300 Fiat. His need for a pliers based multipurpose tool led him to develop and patent his idea once he returned home. After partnering with his friend Steve Berliner and almost a decade of knocking on doors while perfecting the design, the duo was finally able to sell its first Pocket Survival Tool (PST), the same year that the company was officially incorporated. In 1986, Leatherman Tool Group introduced the world's smallest multipurpose tool that had full-size, full-strentgh pliers - the Mini Tool. In 1994, the company launched the Super Tool. Two years later, the company's most popular keychain tool, Micra, was introduced. In 1998, Wave, a multipurpose tool that had four locking blades on the outside that can be accessed without opening the tool plus seven tool blades in the interior, was introduced to the market. The Leatherman Crunch, vise grip pliers that fold away, was introduced in 1999. A year later, the Pulse was launched. Over the next few years, the company kept introducing new innovations in mutli-tools such as Super Tool 200 (2001), Squirt P4 (2002), Squirt E4 (2003), the new Wave multi-tool (2004), Surge (2005), Hybrid (2006), Leatherman's hunting knives (2007), Skeletool (2008), Super Tool 300 (2009), MUT (2010), Style PS (2011), the Brewzer (2012), and Hail (2013).

Headquarters & Locations

Leatherman Tool Group is headquartered in Portland, Oregon with a retail store in the same area. The company also has distributors all around the globe including Canada, Barbados, Austria, Australia, China, Brazil, Chile, Hong Kong, Iceland, India, Israel, Italy, New Zealand, Mexico, Peru, and many more.
