Nachi America

Nachi is a manufacturer of bearings, hydraulic equipment, precision cutting tools, robots, machine tools, high speed steel, and robots. Its bearing products include radial ball bearings, thrust ball bearings, plummer block housings, thrust roller bearings, radial roller bearings, and bearing units.

 

History

Nachi-Fujikoshi Corp. was established in 1928 by Kohki Imura in the city of Tayoma as FUJIKOSHI STEEL INDUSTRY CO., Ltd., a domestic manufacturer of cutting tools and machine tools. Over the next several years, the company gained recognition as a reliable manufacturer of precision cutting tools such as hacksaw blades which were personally inspected by the Emperor Showa. In 1934, the company installed the latest American and European machinery. Four years later, the company opened the Higashi-Toyama Steel Mill and developed an integrated manufacturing system that covered everything from the materials right through to final production. By 1939, Nachi had started producing bearings. The company also created a Machine Tools Department in order to supply the company's plants with machinery that was manufactured internally. By 1940, the business had grown so much that it had 18 plants in Japan and a total of 36,000 employees. Five years later, the company expanded its product offerings to include food industry machinery, hand tools, motorcycles, and bicycles. In 1953, Nachi developed a new product: Christmas tree type broaches used in jet engines. Two years later, the company started expanding its marketing reach by dealing with large OEM customers in Europe and America. In 1958, hydraulic equipment was added to the company's expanding product line. Four years later, the company was restructured according to its product lines: cutting tools, machine tools, bearings, and special steels. Nachi America, Inc. was also established in the same year. In 1963, the company was renamed to Nachi-Fujikoshi Corp. This was the same year that Nachi developed bearings and its materials for the "Shikansen" Bullet Train. Nachi America began production of robots in 1972. The company entered the market of ultra-precision machining equipment in 1984. Three years later, the Nachi Technical Center was established in Indiana. Nachi Technology Inc., a a subsidiary, was founded in Indiana a year later. In 1989, Nachi Robotic Systems, Inc. was established in Novi, Michigan. Two years later, Nachi America purchased National Broach & Machine Co. Between 1995 to 1997, each of the company's divisions achieved ISO 9001 certification. In 2009, the company established Nachi Tool America Inc., headquartered in Greenwood, Indiana.

Nachi America has its headquarters located in Greenwood, Indiana with branch offices in Cerritos, California and Doral, Florida. Nachi Robotic Systems Inc. is headquartered in Novi, Michigan with service centers in Greenwood, Indiana; Greenville, South Carolina; Concord, Ontario; and Mexico. Nachi Europe is headquartered in Krefeld, Germany with branches in South Germany, Czech Republic, Spain, Turkey, and the UK. Nachi also a large presence in Asia with sales companies and offices in Singapore, Vietnam, Malaysia, Indonesia, China, and South Korea. Nachi's overseas manufacturing companies can be found in the U.S., Brazil, Thailand, Czech Republic, Philippines, Singapore, India, Taiwan, and China. Nachi-Fujikoshi Corp. is headquartered in Tokyo with several sales offiecs and plants all across Japan.
