History
Power Team started out as part of the Owatonna Tool Company, also known as OTC. OTC was established in 1925 based on a patented mechanical gear puller. During the 1950s, applications that used these pullers began to require more than just manual power to operate. Thus, the company started producing pullers with hydraulic power which was the start of the Power Team product line. Over the next several years, the company expanded its line of hydraulic products to include special hydraulic products that were sold to OEMs. The company also started a new brand, Hytec, which sold a line of precision hydraulic workholding products. In 1985, the company was acquired by SPX Corporation. In 1988, Power Team became a separate operating unit of SPX. In 1989, the Power Team grew big enough to require a new facility so it moved to a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Owatonna, Minnesota.
