Draft inducers are fans
that are found inside a furnace, close to the heat exchanger. They are designed to turn on before the furnace ignites burners. They clear out residual combustion gases that might have lingered inside the heat exchanger during the previous heating cycle. The draft inducers turn on a minute earlier before the burners ignite and run continuously as long as the furnace is heating and longer after the heater shuts down. The inducer pushes the residual gases out through the afue pipes into the air. It also provides the burner with a continuous supply of oxygen. Draft inducers have several parts, including safety devices or air pressure switch that measures how much air the burner is pushing out of the furnace, a motor and rubber
hose that connects it to the air pressure switch. Draft inducers in furnaces with an afue of below 90% are made of metal, while those in furnaces with an afue of above 90% are made of plastic.
