Hose layout is founded on a mix of operation and program. Common factors are straight hose or coilhose, pressure rating, weight, length, size, and chemical compatibility.
Hoses are made from a mixture of a variety of substances or one. Programs mainly use natural rubbers or nylon, polyurethane, polyethylene, PVC, or synthetic, according to the pressure and surroundings evaluation needed. Recently, hoses also can be made from specific grades of polyethylene (LDPE and particularly LLDPE).

To reach a much better pressure resistance, hoses can be reinforced with steel cord or fibers. Typically used support systems are braiding, corkscrew, rolling and knitting of cloth plies. The support raises the stiffness but also the pressure resistance. To get flexibility, bellows or corrugations are used. Generally, helical or circumferential support rings are used to keep these bellowed or corrugated constructions under internal pressure.
