Boston Gear, a member of the Alta Industrial Motion group, supplies power transmission products that are high in quality to major industrial markets including the material handling, packaging machinery, food processing industry, and so much more. Today, the company provides the widest range of integrated motion control products including the 2000 Series gear motors, the 700 Series speed reducers, shaft couplings, and other power transmission products.

 

 

History

Founded in 1877, Boston Gear started out as a small machine shop that manufactured gear-cutting machines. During its early years, the company introduced innovations such as gear standardization that made it one of the dominant, pioneering leaders in its field. Later on, the company introduced another innovation - enclosed drives, a concept that is still being used today. By 1929, Boston Gear became known as the largest manufacturer of stock gears in the world.

 

 

Headquarters and Locations

For more than a decade, Boston Gear Headquarters has been located in Charlotte, North Carolina  where it has a 193,000 square foot state-of-the-art manufacturing facility that produces an impressive amount of over 20,000 power transmission products. The company has a Central Distribution Center located in Florence, Kentucky with satellite warehouses in Mexico, California, and Ontario. 

 

 

Today

Boston Gear utilizes programs such as Gear Cell Manufacturing, CAD/CAM Design and Manufacturing, CNC/DNC Programming, and Computer Aided Production and Inventory COntrol to ensure efficiency and product quality. These programs also allow the company to provide custom solutions whenever they are needed. After more than a hundred years, Boston Gear continues to provide a broad array of integrated motion control products worldwide.
