with keyways. Though the connections were indeed simple, they proved to be inadequate especially in the presence of reversing and vibratory loads. Keyless rigid coupling was designed to address the problem. A good example of keyless rigid coupling is the taper and screw model. In this type of coupling, the hub and shaft are tapered. Then, the coupling is held in place by threading on the shaft end using a nut and a washer for mating the component.
